Tomatillo

Tomatillo's are a staple in salsa verde and Mexican cuisine. The small green and purple fruits of Tomatillo's are covered in husks and can be harvested in roughly 75 to 85 days after the first sprouts appear. "Ground Cherry" is another variety of Tomatillo that produces Golden yellow, berry fruits. Also known as "Cape Gooseberry," the fruits are utilized in preserves, jams and jellies.

Tomatillo's are not extremely difficult to grow and make a great companion plant to tomatoes and Peppers. They can be grown directly in the garden and are easily maintained.
